Create a Clip from an Existing Video

Print Friendly

The Create Clip’ tool can be used to create a snippet from an existing video in Kaltura. This tool can be used to break a longer video into smaller parts, or to highlight a specific part of a video. Creating a clip will generate a new file; therefore, the original file is not affected. Captions will need to be ordered for clipped file(s) as captions will not copy over from the original video file.

  1. Log into D2L.
  2. Select My Media from the D2L Home Page, located in the upper-right corner.
  3. Locate the video for which you wish to create a clip.
  4. Select Edit from the My Media gallery home page.
  5. Select Create Clip.
  6. Use the clipping tools to set the range of the video clip.
    • Set the Starting Point for the new clip by either entering a time in the Start Time Field or manually adjusting the Starting Point Handle on the timeline below the video player.
    • Set the Ending Point for the new clip by either entering a time in the End Time Field or manually adjusting the Ending Point Handle on the timeline below the video player.

  7. Enter a Name for the new clip in the Name Field.
  8. Select Create Clip to save the new clip to the My Media Gallery.
  9. Wait until The media was clipped successfully” confirmation appears.
  10. Select Save. The video clip will create a new video file that can be accessed in the My Media gallery.
