Creating a Screen Capture Recording

  1. From the D2L My Home page, select My Media.
    Select My Media from the D2L My Home page
  2. Select Add New, then select Create Media.
    NOTE: This will launch the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder. Each time you launch the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder, you will return to the download screen; you DO NOT need to re-​download or reinstall the CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder.

  3. On the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder, select SCREEN.

  4. Select from the screen capture options:
    A. Select screen(s) to capture: Select the screen you would like to capture.
    NOTE: If you only have one monitor only one screen will appear.

    B. Select area to capture: Select the area to capture Full Screen or Select Area:
    • Full Screen allows you to capture the entire screen
    • Select Area allows you to capture a specific area of the screen.

      Select the screen and area to record.
  5. Based on your selection above, follow the appropriate instructions (Full Screen or Select Area):

    NOTE: Verify that your microphone is on and the volume is turned up. The webcam will launch after the Record button has been selected.

    • Select RECORD to begin the screen capture and webcam recording.

    • Selecting RECORD will initialize a 5 second countdown before the screen capture and webcam recording begins.

      NOTE: Verify that your microphone is on and the volume is turned up.
    • Select SELECT AREA to select the specific area of your desktop to record.

    • Follow the Select Area prompt and drag your mouse over the area you wish to capture.
      NOTE: The screen capture will begin once the screen capture area has been selected.

    • Releasing your mouse will initialize a 5 second countdown before the screen capture recording begins.

  6. Once the recording begins, the Recording Screen Capture menu will appear and includes the following options: Draw, Pause/​Resume, Done, and Cancel.

    NOTE: If this menu does not appear, select the Kaltura icon from the task bar on your computer.

  7. Select Done when your recording is complete.

  8. A preview window will load and play back the recording.
    NOTE: Segments of the recording can be removed via the Trim and Chop editing tools, as desired. Trimming and Chopping is only possible if the resulting video is longer than 10 seconds.

    • Trim will remove video outside of the blue selections sliders.
    • Chop will remove video within the blue selection sliders.
      Edit the recording using trim and chop tools, as needed.OPTIONAL:

      If Edits (trim, chop, titles, or credits) are made/​added, select Apply.
      Select Apply to save edits

  9. Select Done when you are finished previewing/​editing the recording.
    Select Done.
  10. Modify the Title so that it is distinctive.
    OPTIONAL: Enter a description and/​or tags.

  11. Select Upload to add the recording to your Kaltura My Media gallery.
    NOTE: Recordings must be uploaded to the Kaltura My Media gallery in order to be embebbed into a D2L course. If you select Save, instead of Upload, your recording will be saved in the CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder Library until you select theUpload option.

  12. In your web browser, select the back button to return to the My Media gallery.
    NOTE: The file will not appear in My Media until it has been processed by the Kaltura server. The amount of time required to process will depend on the file size.
